...in the fanzone for the Euro08 in Vienna
...travelling with the ferry from Finland to Sweden
The last two weeks for full of new experiences - far too much new experiences for this time of year - as it should be the exam time in university :o) but anyway a lot of fun.
Last weekend two male team mates from Fürstenfeld convinced me to run - or better bike - the Austrian Relay with them. As i was going with the bike of a friend, with running shoes, not knowing where to put kompass, SI and so on it was quite obvious that my last and only MTB-O was min. 5-6 years ago. But even though we missinterpretated the rules i started on the last, long leg, it was a really fun experience and i surprised myself how well it worked the biking (and finding the controlls- but exspecially biking) worked out. Finally we reached the 5th place -really close to the 4th - which made us really happy.
On tuesday i traveled to Finland to train a few days with Bussola-Ok Matthias swiss club. Unfortunatly the big amount of running orienteering in challenging terrain at EOC and in Finland made my foot hurting again and i was already very pessimistic about Venla-Relay. But running well taped at Forssa Games showed me that it should be possible and so i took the training easy and tried to run not just in terrain but also on roads near Tampere.
kleine Bootstour zum Einstimmen auf die Venla am Samstag Vormittag
The Venla itself was again very exiting. Elin A Skantze run the first leg for our team and as is already quite often happened now - came in first. Malin and Ellen ran very well too and so i could start as 42nd. With my race i was not so satisfied. Running nearly everything by myself i had some tecnical problems and lost several times more than a minute (up to 3.5) by searching for controlls. But still it was not so bad till about 6,5km from the 8,2 but then i made quite a few and also one bigger mistake - getting really desperate that i noticed especially while searching that many people past me so i lost 17 more places just in the last loop which was really bad.
Jukola Start um 23.00h
really nice but also quite exhausting was the tripp home- on a boat with an unbelievable amount of orienteers and the biggest boat ive ever travelled with.
... the 8 Venla-Girls from Järla vor der Party
The end of this weekend (or beginning of the week :o) i ve spent watching the thrilling game of Austria against Germany yesterday . First we planned to watch it as the first game of Austria last week in the fanzone on the ring of vienna (with 70.000 other fans) but it was already closed at 19.00 because it was full we dicided to watch it in the Hanapi Stadium which was also really packed (about 15.000 people). It was amazing how many people where on the roads everywhere and even more unbelievable after the bad mood about Austrian team before the Euro started. Suddenly everybody was convinced that they are the best and even if the lost the game yesterday 0:1 and wont play in the Quarter-Finals most of the people still are very positive about our young team (also me :o)
Cindy beim Fanen...
Now lots of work at uni waits for me- on the weekend i will travel to the woc-praparation camp and the austrian team champs to Klagenfurt.

Hi Karin!
We should have actually been on the podium as we were in fact 3rd team as the second Villach team was non-competitive (one runner was from another club), nor were the Hungarian runners from the same Hungarian club either, and the rules worked against us too. Next year will be the first real ÖM MTBO Relay! lg Iain
